Big Cats, Small World

On the shores of Botswana’s Gomoti River, Africa’s three Big Cats have made themselves at home. This summer, as some embark on a journey to parenthood; others are nearing its end. An aging lion has his hands full with new cubs, and rivals that could kill them; a cheetah mother is racing to get her five cubs to independence, while a male leopard embarks on a bumpy journey to fatherhood. Winter floods bring opportunity, and tragedy to the lions, and challenge the young cheetahs adjusting to life without their mother. In the woodlands nearby, a leopard mother battles to protect her cubs against intruders. To succeed, all of these cats must use their unique skills to avoid lethal encounters, outsmart rivals, and thrive in a crowded neighbourhood.

Pride Rules

PRIDE RULES is a remarkable look at lion prides, their politics, their incessant drive to survive, and the daily struggles they face to protect their territory. On the banks of the Chobe River, a large lion pride dominates the highly prized floodplain territory. Led by two charismatic brothers and a plucky lioness, the pride consists of 18 members. And then there’s Einstein; the wayward son who should have left home long ago. As the dry season takes hold of their territory, the pride capitalizes on weakened elephants, fights off rival lions and sees new cubs into the fold, sparking Einstein’s inevitable eviction. But while Einstein embarks a peril-filled journey to find a new home, his original pride must battle enemies to protect their turf and their cubs. As the series unfolds, births and deaths are inevitable and battles, many. Just like the beautiful river that meanders through the floodplain, there is a constant ebb and flow of change and a constant stream of undercurrents that hint at deceit and demise.

Cub Camp

Judy and Roger Stearns, ordinary people with a little bit of land and a lot of heart, run Black Bear Rescue Manitoba. Every spring they welcome in orphaned black bear cubs to their 10-acre facility. All of the cubs arrive deeply traumatized and alone, with some cubs being so young that they are blind and helpless. But with the round-the-clock care provided by the Stearns, including bottle feeding at all hours, these baby bears gradually recover and even thrive. As they grow, they develop distinct personalities, and learn the skills they need to survive. And, in the fall, the group of healthy and confident cubs are ready to return to the wilderness, having grown up under the safe wing of CUB CAMP.
