Each family is helmed by a matriarch, and they live and die by two rules: only the alpha female is allowed to reproduce, and intruders are not welcome. The Bay Family currently occupies prime territory – Marina Bay. Meanwhile, the Townies, Nomads, and Mangrove Family have built their own empires around the island. These otters peacefully coexist – as long as they remain in their own territory, under their queen. But peace breeds restlessness. As the Bay Family settles into their home, the other clans are starting to stir, each wanting a piece of this otter paradise…

Red Crabs Crazy Ants

Christmas Island is home to the yearly mass migration of red crabs. Each year many of the crabs fall victim to the alien yellow crazy ants. These ants release formic acid as they crawl over and around the crabs which, with no defence against the ferocity of the onslaught, become stressed and generally die within a few hours.
