Over the course of a year in the life of three whooping crane chicks, we witness the challenges of bringing a species back from the brink of extinction, from the early conservation efforts to new threats posed by climate change. Woodpeckers: The Hole Story

There are over 240 species of woodpeckers. They live on every continent except Antarctica and Australia. Woodpeckers come in all shapes and sizes, each uniquely engineered for their particular lifestyles. Some are sap drinkers, others live exclusively in forests ravaged by fire. Others catch insects on the wing acting more like a swallow than a woodpecker. And still others drill deep into the bark of decaying trees using their spear like tongue to fish insects from deep in the cambium.
